Knit one Vet two and other blurbs

It's been a few days of animal worries.

I'm really starting to worry about Sey, my kitten. She hasn't been putting on weight for awhile now. Mostly in part to other animals eating all the food. She's put on weight the past week, thanks to nothing else hogging all of it and we changed the food, thinking maybe she didn't like the other food. Either that was a mistake or sneaking bits of Shadow's (my mother's dog) food has made her ill. She's been leaking all over the place. (That's the nice way to say it.) She's gotten all of her bathroom business in her litter box, but she continues to leak afterwards. So, the little girl not only needs a bath, but probably a looking at from the vet. Fun.

Talked to mom last night about it, and she said she's still a little meh, but it's probably nothing. Still. Jen? How do I give a cat a bath? You're the expert here.

And then Sunday, oh boy. I've always know something like this would happen.

I've known my boss for over 5 years now. We've worked at various radio stations together and now the business he's started. I've been house sitting for him roughly 3-4 years now. He goes on vacation, and I stay and watch his house and "The Girls."

The Girls started out as Gillian the daschaund and Holly the Cocker Spanial. Both were mildly overweight. Both really sweet.

The Girls have progressed into Gillian and Gracie. (Holly reached the point where she needed to be put down about a year and a half ago.) Gracie is another daschaund, who is really young (Almost two when Gillian is about 7 I believe) really neurotic, and a spaz. The first night I sat for them, she spent all night outside barking at me, and then I woke up the next day with her next to me. Go figure.

Anyways, I have to housesit the dogs because Gillian takes seizure meds. I've always known since day one that there is a possibility something could happen. After all, that's why I'm here.
Yesterday, boy did something happen.

Gillian had 4 seizures yesterday. Scared the hell out me. I've never seen anything like that.

The worst part was, after calling my boss, there is literally nothing I can do about it. I have to sit there and watch and just try to calm her down and talk her through it.

She got sick three times during all of this, and I think I figured out why she was seizuring. The last time she got sick, something that looked a lot like black electrical tape came out. So she wasn't digesting anything due to the blockage. That would explain why the sausage that has the medicine came out. Probably why she seizured so much too.

She spent about thirty minutes lying next to a wall before crawling in her kennel under the blankets and conking out. I thought, "Geez, she's going to be lethargic all night. Will she be okay?" Then about 10 minutes later, she's shooting out of the kennel to bark at the sliding door. Dog is much better!

She proved it today by waking me up by racing around the basement at top speed. A sick dog would not do that.

Just to be safe, I left Bailey at home Monday and probably today, just in case it happens again. She seems to be doing loads better. Afterall, she woke me yesterday by jumping on me and racing aroudn the basement.

I've been hard at work the last 24 hours and after a potential studio crash, which I'm still not sure how to fix it, I've gotten through a lot of work. I think I still have my rollerblades in my car so I'm going to take a five minute drive to the Sedgwick County Park and rollerblade for a bit.

I'll probably get another bike helmet tomorrow so I can start running Bailey daily while I bike. She needs a faster pace than a walk, and hell, I need the exercise. At least biking might keep my interest a bit better. I'll probably also go pick her up tomorrow and we'll go to the park and run/rollerblade through it since Gillian's feeling better.

In other thoughts, I'm conspiring on knitting projects again. Something about bags and dog-kerchiefs. And curtains. Don't ask. I really don't know on that last one. :D

And still other thoughts, a bit of a picture montage for you of something besides knitting.

This is something I do for fun. (I'm the one in the corset.) I have practice tonight and we find out who the 4th Musketeer is for faire. We had a lot of fun trying for it the past few weeks.

These few pictures are from the McPherson Highland games about two weeks ago. We went up and put on a few demos. Blackhearts, the club I'm in, does Reniassance Re-enactment fencing. Loads of fun.

And lastly...that guy...he's the special guy that puts up with my knitting. And my dog. Loves the dog. *stupid grin goes here*

First of all, that last picture is so cute!

Ok, about the bath... how old is she? I generally give the smaller cats a bath in the sink (it's easier if you have the spray nozzle). I plug in the drain and fill the sink halfway with warmish water (not too hot), and I put a little shampoo on and rub it all in, focusing on the extra dirty spots. Then I rinse off and squeeze the extra water out (kind of like you might do with your hair). It helps to have an extra pair of hands to handle the shampoo and to hold a towel out ready.

The important thing for me is to always keep at least one hand on the cat to keep it calm. Freckles is pretty good, but she started getting baths when she was 3 weeks old. Cosette is 4 and I just gave her a bath last week in the tub, which went pretty well (her 2nd bath).

I use baby shampoo or cat shampoo, but nothing by Hartz.

Very scary to watch a dog (or a human) having seizures knowing that there is nothing you can do! Glad to hear all is on the mend.

I dont envy anyone giving a cat a bath!! :) I have bathed more dogs than I can count, but I am way to chicken to attempt a cat! Good luck! And have someone take pictures. :)
